Suggested hymns:

All hail King Jesus
Almighty Sovereign Lord
At the name of Jesus
Bind us Together
Christ our king before creation
Crown Him with many crowns
Give me oil in my lamp
I cannot tell
In majesty he comes
Jesus, King of Kings
King of Glory, King of Peace,
Led like a lamb to the slaughter
Let all the world in every corner sing
Lift up your heads, ye mighty gates
Lift up your hearts to things above,
Look ye saints the sight is glorious
Majesty
Make way, make way
My dearly beloved your calling you see
O heavenly King, look down from above
O Worship the King
Oh what a gift, what a wonderful gift
Our God reigns
Praise my soul the King of heaven
Rejoice the Lord is King
Seek ye first the kingdom of God
Sing we the King who is coming to reign
The King of love my shepherd is
The Kingdom of God is at hand!
The kingdom of God is justice and joy
The Lord is King
The servant King
There’s a light upon the mountains
Thou didst leave thy throne
Turning the world upside down
We have a king who rides on a donkey
When will you save the people?
Who is on the Lord’s side?
You are the King of glory
You laid aside your majesty

Collect

Gracious God, Sovereign over all
Bless all those in authority in our country
That they may govern wisely, fairly and compassionately,
So that justice might flow like a river
And righteousness like a never-ending stream.
May we all work together so that
The least, the last and the lost in our society
May benefit from the prosperity of our nation.
We ask this through Jesus Christ the King,
Who reigns with You and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Prayer of Thanksgiving:

Heavenly Father, we give You thanks for Jesus the King.
He gave up all that He had, emptied Himself and took the form of a servant.
He was born to a humble family, with the stigma of illegitimacy about Him.
He lived with the ordinary people.
He rode into Jerusalem, a King upon a donkey.
The night He was betrayed, He took the towel and the bowl, and washed the feet of His disciples, telling us that we must do the same.
We remember that the only time He trod the corridors of power, was when He was on trial for His life.
Thank You that Jesus became like us, in order that we might become like Him.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Prayers of Confession:

Loving God, we confess our sins before You now.
As a nation, we confess that we have been selfish in our use of power, and have not always worked for the good of the world.
Lord have mercy
Christ have mercy

As a church, we confess that sometimes we have been more interested in the love of power, rather than the power of love. Forgive us when we have chosen to dine at the top table, rather than choosing to feed the hungry.
Lord have mercy
Christ have mercy

As individuals, we confess the times when we have valued people for their social status, rather than because they are children of God.
Lord have mercy
Christ have mercy

Let us then hear the words which Jesus came to say, and which He says to all those who will hear Him today:
Your sins are forgiven.
Thanks be to God. Amen.

Prayers of Intercession:

Father we bring before you the needs of our world.
We pray for all those working for peace in our world. We pray for the leaders of nations, for those in authority, and for those who have to make difficult decisions. We give you thanks for the freedoms we have, the freedoms which our ancestors won for us, often at great price. Help us to work to extend those freedoms to our children, and to the whole of Your world.
Lord in Your mercy
Hear our prayer.

We pray for the whole Windsor family, especially after their recent bereavements. May Your comfort and strength come to them, by the power of Your spirit, that they may know that the love of Jesus is stronger than death.
Lord in Your mercy
Hear our prayer.

We pray for those who suffer, whether in body, mind or spirit. Lord, bring your healing power to bear. We think today of.....(local needs). Bless them and heal them.
Lord in Your mercy
Hear our prayer.

We pray for those who are not yet Christians, but whom we would love to see become Christians. In the silence, we pray for just one person we would like to see becoming a Christian...........Father may Your Spirit be working in their lives, and give us the words to say, and the deeds to do that their lives might be changed.
Lord in Your mercy
Hear our prayer.

Finally we pray for ourselves, and bring our own prayers before You. (Silence)
Lord in Your mercy
Hear our prayer.

Father we thank You that You hear our prayers in Jesus’ name. May we be answers to prayer by the way we lead our lives. Amen.

Benediction:

And now, may the Lord bless us and keep us, and may we be led into the way of eternal life, in the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Alternative National Anthems:

1. God Bless our native land,
Firm may she ever stand
Through storm and night;
When the wild tempests rave,
Ruler of winds and wave,
Do Thou our country save,
By Thy great might.

2. For her our prayer shall rise,
To God above the skies
On Him we wait;
Thou who art ever nigh,
Guarding with watchful eye
To Thee alone we cry –
God save the state!

1. God bless our native land!
May heaven’s protecting hand
Still guard our shore:
May peace her power extend,
Foe be transformed to friend,
And Britain’s rights depend
On war no more.
2. O Lord, our monarch bless
With strength and righteousness:
Long may she reign:
Her heart inspire and move
With wisdom from above;
And in a nation’s love
Her throne maintain
3. May just and righteous laws
Uphold the public cause,
And bless our isle:
Home of the brave and free,
Thou land of liberty,
We pray that still on thee
Kind heaven may smile.
4. Nor on this land alone,
But be God’s mercies known
From shore to shore:
Lord make the nations see
That men should brothers be,
And form one family
The wide world o’er
